So James got me a little surprise.....named Rupert. Ben, James' bro, is moving out in June and taking my little brown-headed stepchild, Duke with him. Cowboy is so awesome and ever since we helped rescue Farley last December we've wanted to get a second hound but with Duke it just wasn't practical.
In mid-April I met Rupert at WoofStock, a festival for dogs in downtown SD. He was found as a stray in mid-march and ended up in the pound. A local doggy-daycare, Metropawlitan Dog, does some rescue work so they took him in and began nursing him back to health. He was about 30lbs underweight, still has about 5 to gain. They were initially told he was a senior, I think like 7-10 years old. Well once they showed him a little love and got some routine vet care they realized he was much younger than they thought. Now the estimate is two-ish. Actually they described it more as "terrible-twos"....he's a chewer and quite the wild man when he wants to be.
Anyway he was up for adoption at WoofStock and I was very interested due to the age, bassetude, etc. I talked to James about it but we kept putting it off because of timing and Duke. Once we found out Duke was moving out with Ben we decided we'd take Cowboy to Metropawlitan and let them meet/play to see how it went.
We were all set to go meet on Weds. I called as I was getting off work to make sure Rupert was still available and they said that'd he'd actually just been adopted that morning. I was so bummed, happy he'd found a home, just sad it wasn't ours.
Much to my surprise, it was ours afterall. When I got home his little basset butt was perched on my living room floor. I was shocked, James is sneakier than I thought.
So far so good; the boys are getting along quite nicely. The first day was challenging, Cowboy wouldn't ease up on the humping - it was seriously relentless. That's much better now and today they were out sunning on the lawn together, side by side. When Ru drinks, Cowboy licks his face, cleaning up all the excess water from his jowls, its just adorable.
